Finishing 2023 strong!
Some years I feel like the year starts in January, has a March, September and then it is December. The older I get the faster the years seem to get.
So let’s see how we can finish 2023 strong.
Assess where you are at
Assess how you are going against any goals you wanted to achieve in 2023.
If you don’t have goals or you’ve met all your goals (good on you!), why not do a life audit to see if there are areas in your life you want to improve in the last three months of 2023. I have a post on doing a life audit. 6 steps to doing a life audit
2. Consider what you have on between now and the end of 2023
I find December just isn’t a month for me to be progressing any plans except keeping my vegetable garden ticking over. It is normally about finishing work for the year and preparing for the holidays. Therefore, my finishing strong plan is really about two months of the last three in the year.
Look at what you have on between now and the year end. When are you likely to have little time for working towards projects? This can help you work out what is practical to pursue.
3. Be realistic
It is easy to add too many goals, projects or new habits into out schedule because we want to achieve things before the year is out. However, if it isn’t practical to do all these things - it could be a recipe for failure.
Perhaps if there are lots of things you want to do you can divide things into Group A (things you really want to do) and Group B (things to do if you have time).
4. Make a plan
Make a plan. Work out what you need to do to achieve the goals by the end of 2023. Schedule in time each week and tasks to work towards the plan.
5. Track your progress
Making a plan doesn’t help you achieve your goals unless you take action. Set aside regularly review of your progress towards your end of year plan. Given its a short period of time to the end of 2023, fortnightly tracking is probably a good approach. This can help you take the actions you need to progress your goals.
6. Re-evaluate and replan as necessary
Life happens and sometimes we don’t get as much progress done as we had planned for. Sometimes I find I am a little too optimistic in my planning.
Plans can be re-evaluated and new plans made to recognize when things aren’t going to plan.
Using the last few months of a year can be motivating because it is a short timeframe. Decide on your goals, set a plan and then implement it. This can help you finish 2023 strong!
